AFC Totton v Marlow
Attendance 117
AFC Totton conceded a 92nd-minute goal, meaning they left a wet and windy Alfred Davis Memorial Ground empty handed.
The day looked considerably brighter for Steve Hollick’s men when Michael Gosney put the visitors one nil up in the 51st minute.
But two late goals from Phil John and Jay Welch meant it was Marlow who took all three points on the day.
It was a slow opening to the game with both sides struggling to get a foothold in the game in the first ten minutes.
Despite both sides struggling, it was Totton who crafted out the first opportunity through Gosney and Dylan Knight. Gosney managed to get a yard on his defender and whipped in a delightful cross which Knight headed over from 10 yards out.
With Totton having most of the possession, Marlow struggled to create any meaningful chances – their first real chance coming through a slack bit of play by Totton.
A back pass went astray which Richie Whittingham was straight on to, but the Marlow midfielder panicked when he saw an onrushing Steve Mowthorpe and was unable to control his lob which went high over the bar.
Both teams seemed rejuvenated in the second half after a first half in which neither team actually challenged either goalkeeper.
Totton piled on the pressure early in the first half and eventually broke the deadlock through Michael Gosney. After a number of shots were blocked by Marlow defenders the ball fell to Gosney.
Gosney found space on the edge of the box and with the outside of his right foot, curled the ball around the defenders and into the bottom left-hand corner of the Marlow goal.
Once Totton scored, Marlow took charge of the game and scored themselves within eight minutes of conceding.
The away side conceded a free kick 25 yards out after defender Pat Wilson was judged to be pulling on the shirt of Marcus Mealing. John then stepped up and curled the ball around the outside of the wall and into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal.
Once they were on level terms Marlow never looked back, piling the pressure on the Totton defence.
The pressure became too much for the away side when substitute Jay Welch gave the the home side the lead.
A shot from Charlie Barton was saved low down by Mowthorpe but Welch was the first to the rebound and fired his shot straight into the Totton goal.
The 92nd-minute goal meant Totton have now only claimed one point from their last two away games.
