AFC TOTTON WILL BE HOPING to take full advantage of back-to-back home games this week, following up Tuesday night’s 2-0 victory over Plymouth Parkway by entertaining Beaconsfield Town at the Snows Stadium on Saturday.
The Buckinghamshire-based Rams have so far experienced an unspectacular 2023/24 season, having lost more matches than they’ve won, bringing them to the South Coast in 13th place in the Southern League Premier Division South table.
Currently, The Rams are seven points clear of the relegation zone but will still be looking nervously over their shoulder at the likes of Tiverton Town and Parkway, who still have several games in-hand with which to attempt to close that gap.
It took 11 matches for Beaconsfield to record their first win of the season, despite having two goes at beating Isthmian League South Central Division outfit Southall in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup. But a 2-1 home win over Sholing began an impressive run of six wins in eight games in the league and the Isuzu FA Trophy, in which their interest was ended at the Second Round stage by a single goal defeat to Bath City. That was the weekend prior to Totton’s visit to Holloways Park on 25 November, when two goals from Joe Turner steered The Stags to a comfortable 2-0 victory in which Luke Bennett marked his AFC Totton debut with a sublime assist for the second goal.

As mid-February bled into March, The Rams enjoyed three wins on the bounce with a victory over Walton & Hersham coming between away successes at Didcot Town and promotion hopefuls Gosport Borough, before a double-header with Dorchester Town produced two narrow defeats; the first was a 1-2 loss in Dorset, the second by the odd goal in seven last Saturday.
Having seen his team lose for the first time in 12 matches at league leaders Chesham United at the weekend, Stags boss Jimmy Ball will be keen for his players to capitalise on Tuesday night’s win over Plymouth Parkway by laying the foundations for another run of impressive results to steer The Stags into the Promotion Play-Offs come the end of the campaign.
