THE STAGS' FIRST GAME in the Southern League Premier Division South will be a trip to Harrow Borough’s, so let’s find out a bit about our opponents…
THE BASICS
Harrow Borough Football Club is based in Harrow, London. They were founded in 1933. Their home ground is the 3,070-capacity Earlsmead Stadium. Their nickname is The Boro or The Reds, owing to the colour of their home kit.
HAVE THEY GENERALLY BEEN SUCCESSFUL?
Formerly of the Isthmian League, Harrow have had an interesting recent history with plenty of ups and downs. They have reached the FA Cup first round proper twice – once losing out to Chesterfield, and then to Northampton Town in 2016. In May 2017, Harrow were only saved by a reprieve from relegation to the Isthmian League Division One South following a system re-structure, which meant the West London club could retain their status.
HOW DID THEY GET ON LAST SEASON?
The Boro’ had a tough time of it last season. Having lost 23 of 42 league games in the Southern League Premier Division South, they finished in the relegation zone. But, The Boro’ were granted a reprieve when Metropolitan Police requested voluntary demotion due to their own financial issues. Harrow reached the Final of the Middlesex Senior Cup, only to suffer a 0-5 defeat to Hayes & Yeading. In the FA Trophy, they made it to the 4th Round before being knocked out on penalties by FC Halifax Town, while divisional rivals Bracknell Town ended their involvement in the FA Cup.
HAVE AFC TOTTON PLAYED THEM RECENTLY?
According to our records, this upcoming fixture will be the first meeting between Harrow Borough and AFC Totton.
WHO IS THEIR MANAGER?
Jordan Berry, a 29-year-old primary school PE teacher, was appointed as Harrow Borough’s new manager in May. He was a combative midfielder during his playing days, making 44 appearances for Plymouth Argyle before spells with Chipstead, Egham Town and Chalfont St. Peter. He made the move into coaching at the Watford Academy and then became the youth team manager at Uxbridge. He progressed to take on the Assistant Manager’s job at Northwood, before becoming a coach at Southall and taking on the managerial hotseat at Egham Town, who he took to second place in the league last season only to lose to Merstham in the promotion play-offs.
WHEN AND WHERE IS THE GAME?
The game takes place at Earlsmead Stadium, Earlsmead, Carlyon Avenue, Harrow HA2 8SS on Saturday 05 August. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
