THE THIRD ROUND DRAW for the Isuzu FA Trophy, which took place on Monday 20 November, produced an away tie for Jimmy Ball’s men.
The Stags will travel to West Sussex to take on Isthmian League Premier Division side Horsham at The Camping World Community Stadium on Saturday 09 December. The Hornets currently sit ninth in the 22-team division, with 22 points from six matches. They have a few games in-hand over their league rivals, though, due to reaching the First Round Proper of the Emirates FA Cup and their continued involvement in the FA Trophy.
They overcame Leatherhead, Marlow, Hanworth Villa and Dorking Wanderers in the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup to earn a First Round tie at Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium. A thrilling 3-3 draw brought The Tykes back to West Sussex for a replay on Tuesday 14 November, which the League One side won 3-0.
But Horsham were subsequently reinstated in the competition when it was discovered that Barnsley had fielded an ineligible player in the Replay - one who had been out on loan when the original tie took place and, therefore, was not permitted to take part in the FA Cup until the next round. So, while AFC Totton and Chesham United play out their Southern League Premier Division South match today, The Hornets will be in action at Sutton United’s Gander Green Lane ground hoping to gain a place in the Third Round draw and a very lucrative home tie against one of the Premier League big boys!
MATCH-WINNER: Joe Turner wheels away in celebration after scoring the goal that put AFC Totton through to the Third Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy at the expense of Havant & Waterlooville.
Meanwhile, in the Isuzu FA Trophy, Horsham beat Brightlingsea Regent, who were relegated to Step 4 last season, 2-0 in the Third Qualifying Round, before despatching Larkhall Athletic with a 2-1 away win at Plain Ham in Bath in the First Round Proper. In Round Two, The Hornets beat Bracknell Town 3-0 on the 3G pitch at Bottom Meadow, where Totton also recently triumphed with a 5-1 win in the league.
The Hornets have picked up four points from their two Isthmian League Premier Division matches since the win at Bracknell. A 1-0 home win over Margate on Tuesday 21 November was followed by a 1-1 draw at Concord Rangers on Canvey Island, another location at which AFC Totton have enjoyed a handsome away win in recent seasons with 2021/22’s 5-0 FA Trophy success.
