AFC Totton Sign Forward Sol Wanjau-Smith

AFC Totton are delighted to announce the signing of forward Sol Wanjau-Smith ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 27-year-old arrives at the Snows Stadium with extensive National League South experience, having spent the majority of his senior career in the division with Hungerford Town, Maidstone United, Bath City and Chippenham Town.

Primarily a winger, Sol's versatility has seen him feature in a variety of positions throughout his career, including at right-back, left-back and as a striker, making him a valuable addition to Scott Rendell's squad.

Sol first established himself at National League South level with Hungerford before earning a move to Maidstone United ahead of their 2022/23 National League campaign. Despite the club's relegation from the fifth tier, he remained with the Stones and played an important role in their push for promotion the following season, helping them reach the National League South play-offs in 2023/24.

During that memorable campaign, Sol was also part of Maidstone's historic Emirates FA Cup run to the Fifth Round. He provided the assist for Sam Corne's equaliser against Barrow in the Second Round as the Kent side embarked on one of the competition's most remarkable giant-killing stories in recent years.

Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Sol moved closer to home to join Bath City before returning to Maidstone United on loan in November, helping the Stones reach the National League South Play-Off Final. He then joined Chippenham Town in the summer of 2025, where he made his debut on the opening day of the season against Dorking Wanderers and scored his first goal for the Bluebirds in a 2-2 draw with Worthing.

Away from the pitch, Sol has also established a strong presence on social media, where he shares an insight into life as a non-league footballer and has built a loyal following through his engaging content and personality. His profile has made him one of the most recognisable figures in the division, helping to bring the non-league game to a wider audience. Stags supporters can also look forward to seeing plenty of AFC Totton content across his channels as he begins the next chapter of his career at the Snows Stadium.

Speaking on the signing, manager Scott Rendell said:

“I am over the moon to have Sol joining us. He is an exciting player and one that will add a new dimension to our side. We believe he is a perfect fit for the way we want to play and look forward to him making an impact both on and off the pitch.”

Director of Football Dave Wright also welcomed the move, saying:

“We’re delighted to bring Sol to AFC Totton. He’s a player we’ve admired for some time and his experience, versatility and character make him an excellent addition to the squad. As well as what he offers on the pitch, he has a fantastic connection with supporters through his social media presence, and we’re excited to see him represent the club both on and off it.”

Speaking after completing the move, Sol said:

“Yeah, I’m really excited to be here. I think there are definitely a lot of good things happening at the club and when Scott got in touch with me, I just knew this was a place where I wanted to be. I’m just glad to have got it over the line.”

Stags supporters will be able to listen to Sol's full first words with the club's media soon!

Everyone at AFC Totton would like to welcome Sol to the club and wish him every success in a Stags shirt.
