The Stags fell to another defeat away from home, this time against National League opposition in Woking.

Despite no real chances, Totton did make a bright start to the game, putting Woking under a lot of pressure and forcing their defenders into mistakes.

Fourteen minutes on the clock and Woking had their opener. A superb delivery from Jake Forster-Caskey saw him float the ball to the back post where it was headed across goal and tapped in by Ashley Boatswain.

Being 1-0 down, The Stags didn’t shrink and continued to play some good stuff, still yet to test the ‘keeper though.

And on the 28th minute, The Cardinals made it 2-0. Josh Osude raced in behind his shot was saved by Max Evans but pushed straight to Boatswain and he bagged his brace.

The first half then became a procession and Woking were passing the ball around and keeping it away from Totton as the first half ran out.

After half-time, the game kept going the same way, with Woking in possession and keeping the ball.

On 54 minutes, Osude hit a strike so sweetly from the edge of the box and it took a slight deflection off of Luke Hallett and it cannoned off the post, much to Totton’s delight.

It took a while after that, in fact until the 81st minute to get a next big chance and once again it was the home side who got it and it required to balls cleared off the line by The Stags to keep the game at a two-goal deficit.

In added time, we final tested Craig Ross, and it wasn’t even a shot as Ralph Vigrass poked a ball into the six-yard box, Ross spilled it to Scott Rendell, but he couldn’t score with two defenders back for Woking holding the line.

Today was a game that Woking controlled and showed their class, being a league above The Stags and it looked like the home side were just one step ahead all game without necessarily pushing themselves to the limit.

For AFC Totton, it’s a fifth defeat in a row and the tough period continues, but for the first time in a while we are back on home soil next Saturday looking to get a result against Torquay.
