WESTON-SUPER-MARE – THEIR SEASON SO FAR:

The Seagulls currently sit in 11th place in the league so far on 54 poinst from 33 games. CLICK HERE to see the full table!

Weston began the season in August with a busy run of fixtures as the new National League South campaign got underway. Facing sides including Hornchurch, Chelmsford City and Chippenham Town in the opening weeks, The Seagulls made a strong start and quickly established themselves towards the top end of the table.

September continued positively as Weston looked to build momentum in the league. With matches against sides such as Maidstone United, Enfield Town, and Chesham United they picked up maximum points that helped keep them in the early playoff conversation as the campaign began to take shape.

October proved to be another competitive month for The Seagulls as they faced a tough test away at FAC Totton which they lost 3-1 but after that Weston remained firmly in the promotion mix during this period, continuing to pick up valuable points through the autumn with wins Hampton & Richmond and Slough and a draw with Tonbridge. Also in the month was a 1-0 win against Needham Market which sent Weston-super-Mare into the first-round proper of the FA Cup.

November’s form was ok as Weston continued their push near the top of the table. They did suffer a 3-0 loss against Hemel Hempstead but went on to get league wins against Eastbourne, Ebbsfleet, and Bath they also progressed in cup competitions, winning against Aldershot in the first round proper of the FA Cup and beating Chippenham in the FA Trophy too.

December brought one of the highlights of Weston’s season so far as they continued an impressive run in the FA Cup, progressing to the Third Round for the first time in the club’s history before eventually exiting to League Two side Grimsby Town in a closely fought tie in January. The run proved to be a major achievement for the club and brought national attention to The Seagulls.

The turn of the year saw Weston continue their league campaign while balancing cup commitments with that loss to Grimsby, with January featuring several important league fixtures as the playoff race began to intensify.

Unfortunately for WSM, February is where the form started to dip, with just one league win out of four, two being draws and the other being a loss and this dropped them into 7th place but as we move into March The Seagulls are sat in 11th after two back-to-back defeats and although still being in the hunt for the playoffs, they don’t look as certain to be in there as they did for the majority of the season.
