Benny Read

The older brother of AFC Totton midfielder Freddie Read, Benny initially came to the Snows Stadium in November 2022 from National League South side Havant & Waterlooville, impressing with several sterling displays at right-back before signing a permanent deal with The Stags in January 2023.

He spent three seasons with Horndean in the Wessex League Premier Division before The Hawks swooped for his signature in the summer of 2019. He quickly established himself in their first team and became something of a fans' favourite at Westleigh Park.

After two seasons of regular first team football, he returned from injury to find himself being rotated in and out of the side, so when the opportunity to make the move to AFC Totton arose, he was keen to explore the possibility.

Benny made his Stags debut in the 6-1 home win over Tavistock AFC, putting in a performance that prompted Manager Jimmy Ball to describe him as "a Rolls Royce of a right-back."

When Freddie stepped off the bench in the 4-2 win at Bristol Manor Farm at the end of November, it was the first time the two brothers had ever appeared in the same team at the same time. Benny scored his first AFC Totton goal in the 3-0 home win over Melksham Town in February 2023.
