PLAYER BIOGRAPHY
Christos Batzelis progressed through the youth academies at Swansea City and Watford, breaking into the Hornets’ under‑18 squad in 2021 as a left‑back, where his pace and preference for overlapping runs began to shine.
He earned international recognition in June 2021 with his debut for Albania’s U19's in a friendly against Kosovo, later adding two more caps in March 2022 in successive fixtures versus the same opposition. Following his release by Watford, Batzelis featured briefly for Biggleswade Town in the Southern League Premier Division Central during the 2024/25 campaign—ironically facing AFC Totton in the FA Trophy Third Round in December 2024, though he did not take part in the match.
A few days later he signed for Poole Town, where he quickly established himself as a regular in the defence, playing either as a traditional full‑back or a wing‑back on the left flank. At Poole he earned four Player of the Month awards in five months and helped secure a comfortable mid‑table finish, demonstrating consistency, defensive discipline, and attacking support from deep.
Recognising his potential, AFC Totton manager Jimmy Ball recruited him ahead of the 2025/26 season to bolster their backline, after reviewing multiple performances and background research.
Batzelis arrives with high hopes attached: Ball referred to him as “a real gem,” noting the positive feedback uncovered during scouting and highlighting his capacity to establish himself in Totton’s first team.
At just 20 years old, and with youth international experience already to his name, Christos Batzelis arrives at the Snows Stadium with the promise of a bright future in the National League South.
